Hitch Points is operated by THF Solutions, LLC ("we", "us"). This notice explains what we collect when you use Hitch Points, why, and what you can do about it. We don't run ads or analytics, and we don't sell or rent your data.
What we store
- Your account: username, email address, a one-way hash of your password (never the password itself), and whether you've chosen to get news emails.
- What you save: your places (names, notes, locations, categories), trips and their routes, trip folders, and the invite links you create.
- Security logs: each request's time, page, result and IP address, plus a record of errors, too many failed sign-ins, and admin access to your account. Kept for a limited time; the error and sign-in records for up to 90 days.
- Backups: nightly copies of the database, kept for about three weeks.
Why we use it
To run the service: signing you in, saving and showing your places and trips, planning routes, keeping the service secure, and fixing problems. We use your email address only for your account, such as confirming your address and sending password reset links when you ask for one. We send news about Hitch Points only if you opt in, at signup or in My Account, and you can opt out there at any time.
Cookies and your browser
One cookie keeps you signed in. Your browser also remembers display preferences like light/dark mode, map style and panel layout; those stay on your device.
Service providers
- Cloudflare carries all traffic to and from hitchpoints.com, providing HTTPS and protection from attacks. It sees your IP address and the requests passing through.
- Resend delivers our email, such as confirmation and password reset links, and news if you've opted in. It sees your email address and the message.
- MapTiler serves the map images and elevation data, so it sees your IP address and which map areas you view.
- unpkg.com and cdn.maptiler.com serve the map's code libraries to your browser.
- Google Maps, only if you open a "view on Google Maps" link.
Address search and driving directions run on our own servers; what you type there isn't sent to a third party. Each provider handles data under its own privacy policy.
Who can see your data
You, and people at THF Solutions, LLC with admin access, who can view accounts to help with problems and fix errors. Admin access to your account is logged. We'd disclose data to others only if the law requires it.
Your choices
You can change your email, password and news-email choice in My Account. Use Delete account there to remove your account and everything saved in it right away; copies in backups age out within about three weeks. To ask what we hold about you, or for anything else, contact us below.
Children
Hitch Points isn't meant for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If we change this notice, we'll update the date above. For significant changes we'll tell you in the app.
